Macedon Fire Brigade also has a number of small, petrol powered, products which we utilise at different incidents:
Honda WB30, 3 inch Quick-Fill Pumps - We carry one of these in each appliance and these are utilised to fill the Tankers when a reticulated water supply is not available. At significant incidents, one of these pumps will be set up at a water source and left there for all appliances involved in that incident to utilise.
Honda EU20i 2KvA Inverter Generator - This unit was donated by Honda Australia and is used at Motor Vehicle Accidents or other incidents where a light source is required - This unit is coupled with two tripod mounted Flood Lights and can be used for many hours at any given time - This saves firefighters having to carry torches around whilst trying to do their job.
Honda EU65i 6.5KvA Inverter Generator - This unit is capable of running the whole Fire Station eletrical system, in the event of a power failure - This unit was purchase recently, with the assistance of Honda Australia, to replace our old 3.8KvA Generator, which was donated to Heskett Fire Brigade to enable them to power their station in the event of a power failure.
As well as this powered equipment we have been issued with, and have purchased, many other items of equipment which are utilised at different incidents:
2 Sets of CABA = Compressed Air Breathing Apparatus - This specialised equipment is used by Accredited members in incidents where there is a lot of smoke or fumes that make the air unbreathable. This is particularly prevalent in House and other structure fires, when carrying out Search and Rescue activities. Many times, Motor Vehicle Accidents also require the use of CABA due to the toxic fumes given off by burning plastics and other composite materials. And, of course, CABA is used in any HAZMAT incident.
PROTEK Branches - These are carried on all appliances and are an adjustable, variable stream water nozzle - We carry two sizes of PROTEK, both of which were purchased by the Brigade, and these can be adjusted to limit the amount of water that is delivered. The smaller of the two PROTEK's can be adjusted down to 15litres per minute, while still delivering a full stream or fog pattern. This is particularly important when blacking out or mopping up after an incident where water conservation is important.
If you'd like to see any of this equipment being operated, please feel free to come along to the Fire Station on any Sunday morning and we will be happy to show you through. If, for any reason, we are unavailable to do so at the time you visit, we will arrange a mutually suitable time for us to do so.
